Values Are Forever
Doing things in a wild and loud manner is as being true to self as when one is prim, proper and silent. It's just that many of those who choose the former think that these are the only way of expressing themselves for it being the easier one by today's pop culture where formality and self-restraint are re-framed as hypocrisy and vulgarity as honesty. Don't mind the society though. The narratives will change, but human values will not.

One Click Mentality
My breakfasts are amazing especially that my wife always prepare a good set of it. I also do the preparations at times but since I have to start working at 4:30 AM daily, all I can do is to prepare my coffee and wait for my wife's cooking. Or sometimes if we are both too busy, everything else will be instant. Noodles, pancit canton, canned goods, etc. I admit that the taste of these kinds of food are mostly good. It's the preservatives, maybe?
Listening to the news daily, on the other hand, is a different story. 80% of it are bad or even more than that. Corrupt government, crimes, poverty, tragedies and disasters are the usual headlines. If there's one thing that we can't be desensitized from, it's with the nation's problems. Even if most of them seemed happening repeatedly, most will still make you sick to your stomach.
Are there solutions to these? For sure there are. But are we taking the right steps towards it? Is the public really aware of what we need to do to alleviate these problems? Or are we all just taking things in face value and not looking for the root cause? With the suggestions that we are hearing, it seems that it is the case.
For poverty, there's RH law. For crime solving, it's death penalty. For governance issues and corruption, it's to support this candidate for president. It's like for every big problem that this country have, there's a one click solution that we can readily choose from. And many are buying into them. I can't blame these people. Most probably, they are tired of it all and just want sudden changes and hoping that a superhero or a super-formula antidote is found somewhere and can make things happen like a simple one click solution.
The irony though is that the this kind of thinking is the same mindset that causes most of our society's trouble. Most of us wanted shortcuts. When applying for government permits and licenses, when driving thru our congested roads, when we want to achieve something, we have our own ways of what we call "diskarte" to get it done quicker. Usually, "diskarte" is about something not legal that we just turn a blind eye on. We deem them as normal since a lot is already doing it. One click and it's done.
Looking at the nation's situation deeper, everything is interrelated. The effect that we see could be the root, same as the chicken and egg situation. Everything is crisscrossed that suggesting a huge one-click solution could spell another disaster. In mathematics, the simplest solutions are usually the best ones. But in our society, the simple solutions, especially those that are not analyzed well and are merely products of public clamor and emotions can be a can of worms that once opened will extend the tentacles of the illnesses of the society rather than fixing them. Just as instant meals which usually taste good but lacks the nutrients that our body needs.
And I love my breakfast today. A cup of rice, "bistek" which my mom cooked yesterday, fried egg and a cup of coffee. I eat a lot for breakfast but I usually miss out on dinner. I read somewhere that it's a healthy practice. Though I think skipping or eating a meal is not the point whether it's healthy or not. It's still on what things you put on your plate and how much of it you take that matters.

It Helps to Help
We all have needs which sometimes we can't get without the help of others. We all can help in two ways. First is by giving others what they need or second, by teaching them how to get it by themselves.
Helping is not difficult but understanding the real needs and the situations of other people is. And we can truly help only if we can comprehend where others are coming from. Unless we speak the language they understand and we understand the language that they speak, true helping will never be achieved. It will just end up in either spoilage or wastage.

It's Not Social Media's Fault
Only a few people in our society are not yet exposed to social media or have not ever heard about it. The fact is we can define the last 10 years as the Social Media decade.
Due to heavy usage of it, we hear people blame it for the dumbing down of most topics and issues. The attention of people are now shorter and most of us claim we are very busy that we don't have time to dig deeper into each of them. And in contrast, since voicing out thru social media is easier than researching, more opinions without enough basis are thrown heavily into the fray.
A lot of times that it's not just about the knowledge of people that is lacking but also the consistency in the reactions and emotions. I will not be surprised to know that those who are fond of saying "don't be judgmental" on social media comments are also the same ones who are always on fire and on attack mode to bash and bully every person on news headlines who get caught on photos and videos in their bad day without being given the benefit of the doubt of what really happened.
Can we blame all of these on social media then? Or should we rather thank it for showing us the signs of what illness our society had been suffering for a long time? It's just that we're given this medium to magnify what we had been all this time. The challenge now is to find or make up the antidote. Can it also be found on social media? I hope so.

Magagaling daw tayo at talented. Matatalino at madiskarte.
Mayaman = Matapobre
Maganda = Maarte
Gwapo = Bakla
Seryoso = Suplado
Matalino = Mayabang
Tahimik = Nasa loob ang kulo
Mapagtimpi = Ipokrito
Taklesa = matapat
Mapanglait = totoong tao
Palaaway = Passionate
Nagmamaliit sa mga "norms" = open-minded
Bulgar = Liberated o Progressive
Meron talagang taong matapat, totoong tao, passionate, open-minded, liberated at progressive.
Pinoy Pride o Pinoy Insecurity?

Underestimating the Influence of Few Good Men
Here’s a true story about this boy I know. His family's not financially well off. Though his parents supported his studies by sending him to a public school
in elementary. They were luckier compared
to his neighbors since they were living on a small land which his late grandfather bought some years ago while most of his friends and playmates were from the squatter’s
area. Their toys were those that could be
bought from sari-sari stores and they also played with candy covers, bottle
crowns, cigarette packs and other things that could be found in trash bags.
Cursing was the common language there. Drinking, gambling and other vices were the hobbies of many. Shouting and
fighting among families and neighbors were also prevalent. It’s usual
to hear nagging, see people throwing bottles at each other or a bloodied
person caused by fighting.
Sadly, this boy did not have to go out of his house to
experience those things. And it was more difficult for him to avoid what’s in
their home than from those happening outside. He experienced a lot of verbal, emotional, psychological and sometimes physical abuse. A weak heart could have been traumatized with his experience. He might be. And there are scars for sure.
![]() |
| Hawakan mo nga sa tenga. |
This boy, however, loves reading and was doing well in his
studies. But he’s far from being that perfect kid. He was very sensitive on teasing by other kids and he always ended up with fist fights. There was a period
in his life that a week won't pass without him getting into scuffles even with
those several years older than him.
With that kind of scenario, what do you think this boy
became? For sure, he’s not alone in this kind of life.
The society and the people that children grow
up with are huge factors on how they are being molded as an
adult person. Unfortunately, our powers
to choose which environment our kids roam around are limited. Not everyone can
choose which place to live in, which kids our children play with, which people
to work and interact with and most importantly what kind of parents and family you would live with. And sometimes, society is quick to
judge on people by their backgrounds which happen to be the reason why most of us choose to hide our personal history from others.
The factors mentioned above may have a large impact on what a
person could become. But there are other several things that we tend to underestimate on a person’s character building. One is the influence of a few good
people. It can be a real person around him or those which he just reads or
learns about. And at times, these persons have more impact to many of us than
those whom we meet face to face.
Sometimes it only takes one good person for a child to look up to for
him to become a better man someday.
And another is that we forget the natural goodness of a
child and his judgement on what/whom to imitate or to avoid. It was once said that if
something is wrong, it becomes right in the eyes of a child if done by an
adult. it will be absolutely true only if everybody around him does that. But if there’s at least just one person in his surrounding who shows the right example, the natural
goodness of that kid will direct him to who he should follow.
Going back to that boy, I know him very well. Looking back
at what he went through, I can tell that he grew up better than what we would
have expected him to become. His life is not perfect. His character is not
flawless. He still has a lot of issues in him but I can say he’s doing better in
his life now compared with his past. He’s very much a work in progress. He's able to embrace his dark past. Thanks
to the few good people who supported this kid. Some of them are still around
while some were gone and others, he just read them on books. And this boy is me.

Forget Equality
Equality sounds good. But it's never possible. Each human being is different. You are in an advantage and disadvantage at the same time. Absolute equality is boring. If we are all equal then nobody will need anybody. Equality is lonely.
What we truly need is respect and acceptance of our differences. In fact, we can't do anything else better than this. I am different. You are different. We are all unique. Accept it. Respect it. Witness it. Live it. Live with it. Don't kill for it. The world will be better.

Dealing With Traffic Woes (PUV Terminals Scheduling System)
marami raw nanghuhuli, wala tayong magagawa.
masyado. We are at their mercy.
May iba pa
Kaya pag ayaw nilang bumyahe dahil maraming nanghuhuli o
kaya pag traffic, di muna sila bbyahe talaga kahit nakikita nilang dalwampung
bumabyahe dahil nalasing nung gabi. Pinaparinig pa sa pasahero ang mga
kwentuhan. At marami pang dahilan at palusot para di sila bumyahe pag di nila
gusto.
magagawa, walang pagpipilian.
sila basta basta puedeng mawala.
| Example ng Schedule. Free ay para dun sa non-rush hour. Kumbaga, free for all drivers. |
Paniguradong may
pang puedeng baguhin diyan.
Sana. Nakakasawa na din talaga e. Kayo ba di pa nagsasawa?

Dealing With Traffic Woes (Taxi Meter Simulation Phone App)
Apat at kalahating oras na pagmamaneho. Hindi yan papuntang probinsya para mag-out of town gimik o bakasyon. Ganon katindi. At masuerte pa kami dahil walang dinaanang baha.
Then make this one an official application na puedeng gamitin ng mga pasahero ng taxi.

Forcing Your "Rights" is Never Right
Groups, companies and institutions have their own respective
rules that they follow. It’s always part of their systems. Insiders know and abide them. Outsiders can
look. And they can also try to go in, be a guest or maybe aspire to become part
of it and be an insider. And as a guest or a new member, it is always his responsibility
to familiarize himself with the rules and the culture and abide with them. He
may find disagreement with some but he can always ask why there is such. But he
must never expect to
get an answer that he likes to hear or more so to change them.
We simply do not barge into someone’s door acting like a
primadonna demanding the people inside to think, conform and act the way we
want them to while insisting that it is our right. It is never a right but an act
of arrogance. And we can’t accuse people affected by such disrespect of bigotry
since it’s their home and it’s their rules. It is your right to ask and to choose
joining them. But if you do not like something about them, you also have the
right to leave and choose another . Or if you still can’t
find something that suits your taste, you’re also allowed to build your own turf.
A right is never right if you’re forcing someone to change
something that is against his or his affiliations’ will just for you to fit in.
To begin with, you are never forced to join them anyway. You can always choose
to leave, find something else or create a new one. And that is one of the best rights which is provided for all of us.
